Three rockfish lying on the deck
There are dozens of species of rockfish in the waters off California. Here are three small ones we caught back in about 1975: a blue rockfish, a bocaccio, and a corsair.
A bright red rockfish
This is a small vermilion rockfish. When taken in clean water far from shore, the colors of these fish really are this bright.

Here are a couple bigger Vermilion Rockfish (locally called red snapper), taken out of Morro Bay in the early 1990s.

This is a good sized Yelloweye Rockfish taken out of Morro Bay a few years back. When posing for the picture, my friend Jim stuck his face in front of the fish. So I stuck the fish in front of his face.
