A 15 pound king salmon, taken off Malibu in 1991 while fishing for barracuda. Salmon are rarely taken south of Ventura, but occasionally a stray is taken in Santa Monica Bay. I’ve only seen a handful taken, and this was my turn to get lucky. |

A 16 pound king salmon, taken off Ventura in the spring of 1995. 1995 saw the best southern California salmon bite in at least 40 years, according to the old timers, and I caught quite a few. Most years, relatively few salmon are taken south of Santa Barbara. |
