A floating kelp paddy

A kelp paddy -- a chunk of seaweed broken off from a coastal kelp bed which has drifted way out to sea. As the only "structure" in water thousands of feet deep, paddies attract baitfish and gamefish such as tuna, yellowtail, and dorado. Offshore, these are few and far between, and often a good part of an offshore trip involves just looking for paddies.
